Experience the True Taste of Ethiopia Through Its Five Distinct Coffee Regions

ethiopias best coffee regions

Kabod Coffee introduces its new collection featuring Ethiopia’s five most celebrated coffee regions. Now available in 1 lb. and 5 lb. presentations.

Coffee has always been more than a beverage in Ethiopia. It is hospitality, heritage, ritual, agriculture, and identity woven together through generations of cultivation and tradition. As the birthplace of coffee, Ethiopia remains home to some of the most celebrated and geographically diverse coffee-growing regions in the world, each producing beans with remarkably distinct flavor profiles shaped by elevation, climate, soil composition, and centuries of farming knowledge.

At Kabod Coffee, honoring that authenticity has always been central to the company’s philosophy. That commitment now takes center stage with the introduction of a new collection of five unblended regional Ethiopian coffees featuring Jimma, Wollega, Yirgacheffe, Harar, and Sidamo. Imported directly from farms in Ethiopia and roasted in small 15-pound batches at Kabod Coffee’s Denver, Colorado roasting facility, each coffee is designed to showcase the pure and unmistakable identity of its origin.

Unlike other coffees brands that blend coffee beans from multiple regions of various quality and grade, Kabod Coffee’s latest collection remains completely single-source and unblended, allowing customers to experience the individual personality of each region exactly as nature intended. Yirgacheffe Coffee

Altitude: 1,700–2,200 m (5,580–7,210 ft)

The journey begins in Yirgacheffe, one of Ethiopia’s most internationally recognized coffee regions located in the country’s lush southern highlands. Grown at high elevations with abundant rainfall and rich volcanic soil, Yirgacheffe coffees are often admired for their elegant floral aromatics, bright citrus acidity, and tea-like delicacy. The region’s cooler temperatures allow coffee cherries to mature slowly, producing exceptionally layered and refined flavor complexity. Every cup delivers vibrant notes that feel clean, expressive, and remarkably balanced.

Wollega Coffee

Altitude: 1,500–2,100 m (4,920–6,890 ft)

Further west lies Wollega, a region known for its dense forests, elevated terrain, and fertile growing conditions. Wollega coffees are celebrated for their silky body, floral fragrance, and subtle citrus brightness. Compared to some of Ethiopia’s more intensely acidic coffees, Wollega often offers a smoother and more rounded drinking experience while still maintaining the lively characteristics Ethiopian coffee lovers appreciate. Its balance and aromatic complexity make it both approachable and memorable.

Jimma Coffee

Altitude: 1,400–2,000 m (4,600–6,560 ft)

In southwestern Ethiopia, the historic region of Jimma produces coffees with deep body, comforting richness, and earthy sweetness. The geography of Jimma includes forest-covered mountains and fertile agricultural land that contribute to its distinctive profile. Jimma coffees are often recognized for their chocolate undertones, mild spice notes, and full-bodied character. The result is a warm and satisfying cup with remarkable depth and structure.

Harar Coffee

Altitude: 1,400–2,000 m (4,600–6,560 ft)

To the east, the legendary region of Harar offers one of Ethiopia’s most unique coffee experiences. Grown in a drier climate and traditionally sun-dried, Harar coffees develop bold fruit-forward characteristics with intense berry notes, wine-like complexity, and a heavier texture. Harar’s rugged geography and centuries-old trade history have made it one of the most iconic coffee regions in the world. Its coffees are unmistakably expressive and adventurous, often leaving a lasting impression long after the final sip.

Sidamo

Altitude: 1550-2200m (5080-7210Ft)

Finally, the collection includes Sidamo, a region widely respected for producing some of Ethiopia’s most balanced and versatile coffees. Located in the fertile southern portion of the country, Sidamo benefits from high elevations, consistent rainfall, and nutrient-rich soil. The coffees from this region are known for their smooth sweetness, bright acidity, and layered stone fruit characteristics. Sidamo achieves an elegant harmony between fruit, floral notes, and body, making it a favorite among specialty coffee enthusiasts around the world.

At Kabod Coffee, preserving the integrity of these regions is a responsibility taken seriously. Every coffee in the collection is roasted in small batches of just 15 pounds at a time to carefully develop the natural flavor characteristics unique to each origin. The coffees are then immediately packaged in Kabod Coffee’s distinctive one-pound regional packaging designed to celebrate the individuality of each growing region.

More than simply offering coffee, this collection invites customers into a deeper connection with Ethiopia itself; its landscapes, elevations, traditions, farming communities, and extraordinary diversity of flavor.

The new five-region collection is currently available at all Kabod Coffee café locations and online at www.kabodcoffee.com.
